A warning has been issued after claims bleach was thrown over a cat in Weston-super-Mare.

A local charity has warned that there are “more and more incidents involving cats”, after it brought to light to a recent incident allegedly involving “bleach water” being thrown over a cat in the Haywood Village area of the town.

A local pet owner has also said that a number of cats have been found “dead or seriously injured” in the area, as animal shelter Cats Protection Weston-super-Mare and District urged locals to stay vigilant.

The charity wrote on Facebook: “Be very wary if you live in Haywood Village.

“There are more and more incidents involving cats. Report these cases please, these individuals need to be accountable for their actions!”

The animal shelter was drawing attention to a post from a local pet owner who wrote that a “truly sick individual” had thrown “bleach water over our cat”.

Cats Protection Weston-super-Mare and District later added that it believes the cat to be “OK” after the incident.

Local Kelly Edwards joined the discussion, and she wrote: “I run a lost and found group and and I was noticing more and more cats going missing and then being found dead or seriously injured.

“One cat in particular who I managed to rescue and reunite with his owners, some swine in the area decided to shoot it.
