SCITUATE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Scituate man is facing criminal charges for allegedly leaving a dog outside his home in sub-freezing temperatures.
According to the R.I. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA), Jorge “Omar” Brito was arrested last week after they received a call from animal control about the dog, a German Shorthaired Pointer, being locked outside.
“When we responded, it was like 22 degrees outside.” RISPCA Officer Earl Newman said. “We found the dog locked in a small chicken coop. Uninsulated chicken coop. It was seventeen degrees inside the chicken coop.”
The dog is now recovering at Scituate Animal Control.
